Going Dutch Campaign
LCC members voted for this campaign for 2012 mayoral elections. CCC hope to persuade Camden Council to implement an example in Tottenham Court Road when it becomes two way

Camden Council's LIP states that Tottenham Court Road and Gower Street will revert to two-way working and that TCR southbound will be buses and cycles only. (Are we sure that taxis will be excluded?)
Initial Issues
- design of junctions with Howland and Maple bearing in mind that the Fitzrovia permeability project may produce two-way cycling in these two streets
- design of junction with Torrington Place (hundreds of cyclists turn right from wrong side of the road and hundreds more turn in but buses don't use Torrington Place)
- route of SSL (Route 0 shown blue on map) considering that the two-way on TCR opens numerous options
- how to cater for the large number of cyclists on TCR between Torrington and Howland
- hopefully there will be no car parking
Notes on discussion with Camden officers Nov 2011
This meeting clarified the following:
- TCR southbound will be for buses and cycles only but with delivery vehicles between Chenies Place and Grafton Way;
- TCR northbound will be for general traffic, but it is hoped that the bulk of northbound traffic will use Gower Street;
- Between Tavistock Place and Grafton Way, there will be a 6 m carriageway; south of Tavistock Place it will be narrower;
- Gower Street will be two-way south of Grafton Place;
- there is to be a median strip between the two carriageways to allow pedestrians to cross the road more easily;
- at Euston Circus (TCR/Euston Road junction) the underpass will be retained, so southbound traffic (apart from buses and cycles) from Hampstead Road will still turn left to reach Gower Street on the wrong side of Euston Road. There is room for a cycle contraflow on this side, but not for two-way traffic;
- TCR and Gower Street will remain a gyratory between Grafton Place and Euston Road;
These ideas together with suggestions from members and from a meeting at LCC are shown here.
Median Strips
There is concern that recent schemes in London make pavements wider and include median strips, leaving little room for cyclists. See our note on an example at Pall Mall
