Museum St part closure & pedestrianisation

Document Actions
Dates: consultation March 2004; reply due 5 April 2004. CCC member dealing with it Paul Gasson.

COUNCIL TEXT On an experimental basis part of Museum St has been pedestrianised and Little Russell St has been one way eastbound (from Museum St to Bury Pl) since Car Free Day last September (see entry further down this page for June 2003). The council is now consulting about making these changes permanent.

CCC's response

CCC responded supporting the closure of Museum St as long as the existing cycle exemption is maintained. We suggested that the cycle access ramp gradient be reduced as it is uncomfortably steep and some cyclists avoid it and use the pavement instead We queried the need for the one way street in Little Russell St. The consultation did not mention Gilbert Place being one-way (the original proposed this), but we stated our strong opposition to this if it were under consideration.
