Link 28 CRIM
The CRIM started at the southern end of the north south route at 9.30 am. Buchanans (Monika Crouse, Enrique Garcia and Philip Loy) were in charge. CCC was represented by Meade McCloughand and Jean Dollimore, LCN+ by Brian Deagan and Rob Curtis and Camden Council by Dave Stewart. Nigel Butterworth from Westminster Council joined at the start to discuss the link into Westminster.
We then rode up to the northern end of the route for a quick look at the scope of our investigations. When we reached the cycle push button signal at the Agar Grove/St Pancras Way junction, we found the exit blocked.
Coming back was very slow as we had to look at every little detail. At least this time we only had one alignment to follow. I'll describe only the most important things:
The first big discussion was about the re-routing at the Agar Grove/St Pancras Way junction to use Agar Place and Wrotham Road. All agreed that the new route is preferable, but Dave said implementation will be difficult as local residents will have to be consulted.
We noted that the Royal College Street track needs its lines and logos repainting, but when we reached the southern end, the painting crew were busy at work
We agreed that the crossing of Crowndale Road should be re-aligned on the outside of the footway.
Soon after 1 pm we met up with David Braine of TfL to have lunch and to discuss the idea of a box junction on the Euston Road crossing.
We agreed not to discuss remedial measures in the case that Judd Street does in the end go 1-way. The problems to cyclists from the introduction of the left turn at Mabledon Place could not really be solved.
We noted that the modifications at Gordon Square appear to be very effective in that most taxis now seem to wait for cyclists.
We spent some time discussing how to croas over from Byng Place into Malet Street, but no definite solution was arrived at... this is to be flagged for further work.
Finally we reached the southern end at 5.30 after a long but fortunately rain free day.
