St Pancras Safety Audit - Progress
Safety Audit of streets around St Pancras*
February 2000, Camden Council commissioned Camden Consultancy Services to carry out a cycle safety audit on the roads around the station: News item describing safety audit site visit (Feb 2008).
The Safety Audit was published in April 2008. PDF on CCS website
But remedial work has been slow to take off. Seventeen items were recommended for doing within three months.
June 15th 2008. The following have been carried out:
Pancras Rd/Goodsway: remove the "except taxis" sign and replace with "except taxis and cyclists"
Camley Street ASL. resurfacing 5m ASL with a nearside lead-in gate and new sign "except taxis and cyclists" all complete.
Pancras Road south of German Gym - centre line has been moved east most of the way but there is still a pinch point on approach to Euston Road
Pancras Road north of German Gym - centre line has not been moved, just changed to a line that can be crossed.
Bollard in Cycle Gap Argyle Street. Removed June 2008.

June 30th 2008 Problem with Camley Street ASL

We are very concerned about two things shown in the photo on the right:
- Someone has painted a
left-rightarrow on the road surface. This was not specified in the Safety Review and we think would be harmful for the safety of cyclists, of which the majority go straight ahead - it needs to be clear to all that cyclists can go straight ahead. - the road sign in the foreground needs to specify
Except Taxis and Cyclists
(Email sent to Dave Stewart 1 July 2008)
Problem rectified by 7th August 2008.
7th August 2008 Meeting to discuss safety in Pancras Road
We discussed the possibility of a cycle lane on the footway between German Gym and Goodsway but decided it would be better to widen space in the road.
