CCC response to draft transport strategy
- We think it is very well produced: it puts the right emphasis on sustainable travel, is well motivated, sensibly ordered and very legible. We agree with your objective to encourage travel by walking, cycling and public transport – if travel modes do change in this way, the harmful effect of transport on the environment should be reduced (your first objective). We therefore ask LB Camden to be more radical in their transport strategy. We provide suggestions in our detailed response below. The baseline for safety of pedestrians and cyclists is an effective borough-wide 20 mph speed limit. Policies should attempt to discourage private car use.
