Apologies John Chamberlain, Richard Fletcher, Anne Boston

Minutes and Matters arising

Need for a representative on the Camden Community and Police Liaison Group was reaffirmed. Coleen volunteered. The need for volunteers for the stalls on September 6th was raised. Jane offered to help at Swiss Cottage. Jean agreed to ask Tom for his help. The date of George Coulouris’ ride in August has not been fixed, but John Chamberlain’s ride along the Lee Valley will take place on July 27th, beginning at 10.45am

Note taking at meetings

Stefano proposed that a rotating system be adopted , with the Chair of the next meeting taking notes of the current one. Agreed to try this. James to take notes in July, as he will Chair August.

Bike week events

PERIPHERIQUE Confirmed that stewards for the Périphérique will be John, Jean, Stefano, Anne, Dominic, Jane, Richard and James. The event begins at 10.30am

BREAKFAST Stefano agreed to collect the food for the breakfast from Jane on the morning. Coleen offered to flypost the cycle route on either the Monday or Tuesday. Jane to chase Paul Davies about tables and, if possible, a subsidy from LBCamden. BIKEBUS Stefano explained that there are now 2 paid guides for this event. Meade, Jane, Richard, Jean, Coleen and James offered to help; Stefano will issue a schedule before the event. Volunteers for a particular ride are asked to be at Camden Sq at least 5 mins before departure.

East-West route Now at final report stage, with the same route options as before. Pleased that a contraflow lane in Park Village East and a cycle link from Miller Street to Plender St across Camden High St are being proposed. Options for a route up the steep section of Belsize Road behind Swiss Cottage tube station are also being considered. Disappointed that that a contraflow (removing a few parking spaces) at the east end of Compayne Gdns is not supported.

Agreed that CCC is at best lukewarm about using Fairhazel Gardens unless increased width is made available for the contraflow lane. Meade thanked for his efforts and asked to report back the view of this meeting.

The meeting was joined at this point by Connie Rozes, Alex McKinnel, Ben, George Coulouris, Mary Cruikshank and Angela Hobsbawm. A cake and juice break was taken for Helen’s birthday.

MAIN MEETING

Green Fair Feedback

The following comments were made:

Bikefest signage much better than last year, though still not really good enough.

Childrens’ training and Bikefix bikes for trials were obscured by the tall Dr Bike stall.

Steady stream of visitors to CCC stall.

Opportunity to try out recumbents greatly appreciated.

Bikefest information centre needed. Should that be CCC stall?

GreenFair website a complete shambles.

GreenFair becoming a bit repetitive.

Visitor numbers down a bit on last year.

Regarding other events, Stefano expressed dismay at the condition of some of CCC’s banners. Agreed to investigate free-standing vertical ones. Nobody really clear whether this year’s Freewheel will go ahead or not. Stefano and Helen agreed to monitor the TfL website to endeavour to find out. Agreed that we need to set up feeder rides at the July meeting, if we are to have any. (Note added later: Angela reported that the event is on, to be on Sunday, Sept 21st.)

Motorcycles in bus lanes

Several people reported having signed the LCC petition, though opinions were divided as to how serious an issue this is. Jean agreed to ask Paul Braithwaite’s advice on the best opportunity to send a deputation to a Council meeting about this (following Hackney’s example).

New edition of TfL cycling maps

In preparation for the next edition of the TfL maps, members spent some time correcting known errors in the present series.

Inkerman Road street party

date has been changed to July 13th. Volunteers needed.

Items on Great Queen Street and Agar Grove were held over, with Jean agreeing to supply further information.
