Cycle facilities should be reallocated from motor traffic rather than pedestrian space
Policy with respect to competition between pedestrian and cycling facilities.
At the Council's Cycling & Pedestrians Liaison Group CCC proposed the principle that where cycle tracks, cycle lanes or other facilities to assist moving cycles were being constructed, any space required should always be taken from that used by motor vehicles rather than pedestrians.
It was agreed that there would be rare occasions that this might not be practicable, such as the alternative of a substantial detour via busy roads if the cycle facility between Finchley Road through the pedestrianised road closure into Eton Avenue had not been constructed, or where. In this eventuality the council should seek to turn revert other carriageway space in the vicinity to useful space for pedestrians.
