Visit to Design Against Crime Centre
Adam Thorpe of the Design Against Crime Research Centre invited CCC to come to test some new designs for bike stands. So we turned up with a variety of different sorts of bikes on Friday 9th Feb 2007 - a very cold morning.

There were about ten imaginitive designs - most were intended to secure a bike with a single lock, to give additional protection to at least one of the wheels and to stop the bike falling over.

The wheel front wheel of the green bike on the left fits snugly into the loop.
The Sheffield stand with the dangling chains worked beautifully with Meade's large wheel bike - just two of the chains secured his two wheels and went though his D-lock which secured the frame of the bike to the stand. It didn't work with Jean's Moulton as the wheels are too near to the ground.

We were pleased to be able to help Adam by providing feedback on the designs in return for his talk about securing bikes and the entertaining videos of cycle theft that he showed at our December party. Adam was a bit disappointed that we turned up with only one lock each. But he said 80% of bikes owners use only one lock.
