Barnet Green Party Press Release

Friday 4th April 2008

Green GLA Candidate for Barnet & Camden Supports the London Cycling Campaign Manifesto for 2008 and is inspired to Cycle again.

Miranda Dunn: “I must thank the London Cycling Campaign for their excellent 10 point plan for transforming cycling in London. When I first came to London I cycled and found it an excellent way to travel around our beautiful city. Having experienced a collision with a car cutting by me at speed I regret that I have not cycled regularly for some time; however this manifesto has provided the inspiration to get me back on the road.

I support all of the ten point plan. Many of the points are completely in line with the London Green Parties Manifesto for 2008. Most of all I support the creation of tube style maps for local areas, and the whole of London to encourage family friendly cycle routes and allow Londoners to think and act to make cycling our everyday mode of transport. Cycling is good for all ages and it is time to make sure everyone is safe on London’s Streets.

When London is safer for Pedestrians and Cyclists our whole quality of life will be improved.

Jesse Schust of World Naked Bike Ride, is campaigning in Barnet & Camden to support Sian Berry as our Green Mayoral Candidate, to encourage people to vote for the Green Party List; which we hope will return Barnet Green Party’s Noel Lynch onto the London Assembly and to support my Campaign to represent Barnet & Camden as a Green Party Assembly Member.

I support Jesse’s ideas to introduce some faster Bus Routes across London connecting key areas and bus routes and working in combination with the existing routes to make Bus Travel work more effectively. The other idea of Mr Schust’s; which I support is more training for Bus drivers to drive effectively with more respect for cyclists and to recognise their vulnerability on the road. Like most Londoners I have seen numerous examples of bad driving by bus drivers endangering cyclists; and know of cyclists and motorcyclists; who have been dragged under buses with the most serious consequences. [A Green Cycling Cavalcade will take place in Barnet on 12th April. More Info on this event to be released soon].
