Children cycle to school over Hampstead Heath
Although this ride was attended only by children from Hampstead Parochial School, about 20 of them participated along with their parents.
Stefano and Jean from CCC joined the assembled at group of lively children and enthusiastic adults at the start of the cycleway in Millfield Lane. Soon we saw Bob Spellar arrive with Jenny Jones (green party London Assembly Member) and some more families. We were also joined by Cllr Maya de Silva, (green party member of Camden Council).
When all were asembled, we rode down the slope between the ponds and then up the hill as far as the junction with the other cycle way. We turned right and went past the sports field.
We paused at the junction of Lime Avenue, where the children said they didn't want to ride to the top of the cycleway (by Jack Straws), preferring to use Lime Avenue, which is a much more direct route to their school.
Well Walk was a bit congested - something will need to be done there if this is to become a regular route to school. But all arrived at school on time and parked their bikes in the generous bike sheds.
