Eat in the street 10.30 – 18.30
Charlotte Street from Goodge Street south to Percy Street will be closed to vehicle access, making it a car free zone. We intend to celebrate this with an “Eat in the Street” event. Restaurant owners along this section of Charlotte Street will be able to extend their outdoor trading areas to the edge of the pavement. The road will act as the footway and also host several information stands/ stalls and acoustic music.
Fitzroy Square Green Travel Expo 12.00 – 1800
Fitzroy Square will host several activities promoting sustainable transport. There will be a green car and motorbike show, where manufacturers of electric and alternatively fuelled cars, scooters, motorbikes and electric bicycles will showcase on the square. There will also be a BMX stunt show, which will be followed by a number of workshops. These workshops will provide spectators with an opportunity to learn some of the skills displayed during the show.
Free cycle skills training and led walks through the area will also depart from Fitzroy Square. We hope to fill the rest of the square with a number of stalls, including a Love Your Bike stall allowing people to decorate their old bikes, a bike auction, and sustainability and conservation activities in the gardens of Fitzroy Square.
Pedibus
There will be a pedibus which will take event attendees between Charlotte Street and Fitzroy Square. Pedibuses are 100% pedal powered buses that include a space in the middle for a speaker. Each pedibus tour will be manned at different times in the day by a speaker who will talk about green living, recycling and waste reduction, benefits of walking and cycling etc.
White Sound: 24hrs from 22nd Sept – 16 October
The sound installation on Euston Road will change the sound of cars and traffic to the sound of the sea via a live link to Chesil Beach in Dorset. The sound installation is created by Bill Fontana in partnership with Camden, University of the Arts London, Haunch and Venison Gallery. The installation raises awareness of vehicle pollution and its contribution to global sea level rise through climate change.
There will be a stand inside the Wellcome building (manned), where people can find out more about the installation and also informing people how to reduce their car use and find better, greener ways of travelling.
For the duration of the sound installation Camden will be campaigning through the Green Camden website, to encourage people to switch their primary model of travel to greener alternatives. Free cycle training and some incentives from car clubs have been negotiated.
